Friday 30th July

Ch was realising that I was getting worried about my project, especially with impending 5 week report. He accompanied me to the JIVA centre, which was great of him. It meant that he now knew who I was talking about when I mention the centre, it also meant I did not have to ride in a rickshaw on my own (not sure I’m up to that yet). He was also pleasantly surprised by the experience, the school really seems to be in a different world than the one we live in day to day here in Faridabad. After we went back to work, for we had an evening of fun planned.

What an evening it was. We planned to get Cl a new battery charger for his camera. The shop was closed to this plan went to pot. Our back up was to visit the Mosque in Delhi. This was really nice, we climbed the tower, and I was petrified but so happy to have done it we took a celebratory photo at the top. The boys took some really nice photos there, as well as some poor ones of my in a terrible orange and white frock (meant for modesty). One lady came running at me, literally throwing her child at me and asked for a photo, after putting another kid in the shot she then just walked off. That was fine by me, but shocking behaviour none the less, I mean it would never happen in Europe, would it?

We then wanted to find Karim’s a restaurant, which had been recommended to us by one of my Mumbai friends. The map made it look like it was just the other side of the mosque, so we left our driver and walked to where we thought it would be. We could not find the road at all, we ended up going down so many narrow back alleys that after an hour of searching we gave up, returned to the car and asked to be brought to the Red Fort.

Here we bought tickets for the light and sound show and waited for my friend from England S to show up. He ended up being late so we went in a bit ahead of him. The show was – different – a voice-over told the story of the Red Fort, whilst different coloured lights shone on various buildings around the fort.

After the show we were starving, the driver tried to take us to an expensive complex for food, in the end S and his friend, Cl, Ch and I gave up trying to find somewhere authentic and just wanted food so we went to – you guessed it – McDonalds.
