Thursday 26th August

The adventure started early. We had no idea how easy it would be to buy bus tickets, how early we would need to be for the bus, how long the driver would take to pick us up. So we got the car ordered for 2, it arrived just before 3, so not bad really. He dropped us off outside the building and we were stumped. There was a lot of people all around but no clear sign as to where to go to buy the tickets. In the end we left Cl with the bags and Ch and I went in search of a ‘gichet’. After a topsy-turvey route we found booth number 40&8 and bought out tickets. It was only 4pm. We had to be ready to board the bus at half seven, the only thing we could think of doing was to go to McDonalds and camp out in the AC. We made drinks last hours and drew out a pack of fries, the time passed and it was eventually time to find the bus, after a quick stop at Pizza Hut for some yummy, yummy choco lava cake.

The bus station was smelly and full of run down old buses, we were so happy that we had spent a little more on the tickets for it was a relief when we saw our bus. It was not as damaged on the outside as the other buses and inside it was pure luxury, compared to normal buses here. There was ample leg room, the seats reclined till you were almost horizontal, we even got given a bottle of water for the journey.

I cannot pretend that I was not nervous to embark on a 12 hours bus journey, if alone for the fact that I was worried I would need to pee and there would not be a stop. I should not have worried, the bus stopped every two to three hours and at about five hours into the journey we met an Indian lad T who asked if he could tag along as he was traveling alone and was getting rather board at his end of the bus. So he came and sat next to me when be re-boarded the bus and we shared stories of travelling around India, crazy student escapades and then slept.
