Sunday 29th August

We work up at half-five today. The idea was to go visit a church and take pictures with the sunrise. We soon realised that it was not going to be quite as picturesque and the fog/clouds were still low in the sky and the forest made it hard for the sun to spill through. It was a nice leisurely stroll and the church was not that far from the town. It was an old Church, it had been there for centuries, it was from when the inhabitants for the town were mainly British. It looked like an Anglican Church and reminded me of the one back in our village in England. Whilst the boys too artsy photos of the church, I took some of the flora, much better suited to my camera.

Upon exiting the Church we crossed paths with an auto, and decided that perhaps it was fate and we should go visit the nearby lake too, as it was still so early. The lake was no longer there. We could visit a temple next to the old lake, but the lake was dry. Later we found out that it had been dry for two years and the government were in the process of clearing the land so that they could lay a concrete foundation, to stop the water seeping away and to restore the lake to its’ former glory. The lake was used for religious cleansing and played a huge part in the community. The locals are waiting for it to be restored.

We took the same rickshaw back to the town and walked back up the hill. It was still so early that the streets were practically empty and we wondered at a leisurely pace, taking in all the little shops, cafes and following our nose to find good picture taking spots. We found one good spot, round the back of an Ayurvedic center. Whilst the boys took photos, I booked myself in for an Ayurvedic massage later on in the day.

When I joined the boys again, the French café we wanted to go to for breakfast was still not open so we decided to explore upwards, we climbed some steps which led up to a parallel road, higher up the mountain and spent some more time absorbing the calm and nature around us, well I did, the boys continued to snap away. The road ended and became more of a mountain track so we turned back and indulged in breakfast. We had a lovely breakfast of cereal, fruit and yogurt, croissants and pain au chocolate and fresh fruit juice. We ate overlooking the valley and felt ourselves nicely absorbing the suns rays, it made the early wake up worth it.

The Ayurvedic massage was much nicer than the oil treatment I had in Faridabad. So much more relaxing and I felt it so much for my back, it was great. It helped that the masseur was both good looking and had stories to tell, he had worked all over India and seemed to be a free spirit just following where his heart led him. I met a girl from Switzerland, who had been volunteering for a month and a half and she too had decided she need to indulge in a nice massage, I had to get on with work so went back to the Green café and carried on.
